24 hours of delerium

Just a few things that I thought over the 12 hour a day shift weekend

1. How did the human race evolve when we eat everything on this planet? By this I mean: how did we figure what was safe to eat by watching animals? If so we have been “animal testing” since the dawn of time. But what about foods that need special handling such as blowfish (if you cut it wrong it will kill you) or foods that taste like crap in one form, say raw, but taste great when cooked properly?

2. I hate public bathrooms, as do many other people. for some reason my body will not allow certain functions when someone else is in the room.

3. How did salt and pepper make their way to being the top 2 condiments on the table? I understand how salt came about from it’s rich history in trades and preservation but pepper I haven’t seen much on. You walk into any restaraunt and you always see salt and pepper, maybe some other things but salt and pepper ALWAYS have to be there. I just wonder what other condiments made their way onto royalties tabel and taken off for one reason or another.

4. Back in relation to #1, I don’t know the definite story behind it but can you imagine how popcorn was first discovered? I imagine a corn field catching fire and all of the sudden white fluffy stuff starts falling from the sky (light popcorn lifted by heat convection) or maybe a silo catches on fire and turns into a giant jiffy pop tower. Just thought that it would be humorous to see peoples faces when the stuff started falling from the sky. (reference movie “real genious” for best popcorn scene ever).

5. After watching Sci-Fi’s presentation of “Gullivers Travels” I am inspired to read the novel as it seems like an interesting look into one mans depiction of society.

6. After this past weekend working I have effectively obtained a week of comp days which I will cash in to cover the week i will be taking off for the 4th of July. I don’t think my boss knows I have this many comp days but hey he made up the rule. How this works is every third weekend I work 2 12 hour shifts which until 2004 paid me 12 hrs in OT and 12 hrs in DT. At the beginning of 2004 Kraft said that this would no longer be allowed and that we would only get paid a normal days hour rate, meaning we would only get paid 8 OT and 8 DT, which left us getting gipped out fo 4 OT and 4 DT. To compensate this the plant said that every weekend we worked 12 hour shifts they would give us 1 comp day. So I have at least 5 comp days built up as I see it which gives me another week of vacation ontop of the 2 that I originally got and the 1 that I bought at the beginning of the year. Muahahah I barely have to work anymore, no not really but it’s fun to think I could take a whole month off!

7. Searching for houses takes up a lot of gas! I have found an area that seems to be booming in development like West Windsor (for you old school NJ peeps) back in the 90’s. If I buy there, the house will probably appreciate pretty well in the coming years. Yippeeee!

8. I will have a new toy in my computer soon, I bought an early Birthday present (ok so very early) and will have a new video card to play with soon. Mmmmm graphics. I swear this is the last thing that I will buy for a long time….oooh look, a new mouse :-P (JK)

9. My little bro sent me this great Excel spreadsheet with Homer Simpson sounds embedded in it. I have it at work and use it quite freqently for a good laugh when people are in the office. The homer screams and DOAH’s are the best. Many sayings as well, let me know if you want it I can mail it.
