Recap
Hellooooo! I am back from my tour of the northeast and ready to recap what has been going on finally. Before I go into my usual randomness I should recap what I did over the past two weeks. My cousin was getting married in Maryland over the 4th weekend so my fiancee and I traveled by car up to MD via Washington and the bay bridge. First let me say that Washington is the most F*d up city I have ever driven through. I think the problem was that the city started off orderly but then had to expand rapidly and roads would start and end randomly to accommodate the expansion. We drove up I-95 and were planning on taking the 495 loop when a radio personality informed us “If you are planning on taking the 495 North loop *chuckle* GOOD LUCK! Only one lane is open!” So we decided to try our luck on a 295/395 junction (yes Washington has the largest collection of “95″’s). And this worked out on the map, however the traffic geniuses in Washington seem to enjoy traffic games where you enter a side of a highway or road, say the right side, and then have to get to the left side of the highway/road in a matter of seconds. Not only is this poor planning but it is virtually impossible in holiday traffic (which was non existent until outside Washington). So we get lost and end up in Ghettoville, where I proceed to become very annoyed at Washington and curse everything in my view. We finally did make our way out of the ghetto and by the grace of God somehow dead end into the road that got us to the bay bridge.
*BREATHE*
So we cross the bay bridge into one of the more rustic beautiful oceanside/bayside towns I have seen. Such a great town, seafood everywhere and beach life everywhere. To top it off the fireworks over the weekend were great, as they usually are when over a body of water (the reflections off the surface is an added plus). After meeting up with the fam in the hotel and doing some early drinking we went to the rehearsal dinner where the kids formed their traditional kids table and the parents theirs. This has become an interesting battle now as the kids are no longer kids (all 21 or older) and have made their own rules as to who can sit at their table. Basically it has come down to if you are married you’re out, which in a joking way annoys my cousins wife who we all get along with but have fun with the separation rules anyway (plus we can only fit so many at our table). It is also interesting that after years of wanting to eat at the adult table the kids have now formed their own table that the adults want to sit at.
The wedding was a fun little wedding, less than 50 people in all I would say and the reception was at a pavilion on a waterside park. All in all it was a great family reunion and fun wedding.
Following MD we traveled to NJ with my family and my aunt, uncle and cousin (who is now living with my parents while looking for a job/life in NY while applying to grad school at NYU). We spent 3 days in NJ playing golf and shopping as well as seeing HS friends. After NJ we headed back south and visited my fiancee’s cousins in Charlottesville, VA, home of UVA. That campus and surrounding area is pretty awesome, all influenced by Thomas Jefferson and some pretty amazing architecture. The cousins house is in a neighborhood that I can not even imagine incomes. The place is immaculate, I guess the family has old money from railroad tycoons. Anyway I wish we could have stayed there a few more days but it was just for one day. I was glad we stopped in there though as I had met those cousins once and didn’t get to talk to them much, this time I got to hang out with them for a day and had a blast finding stuff we had in common and getting to know them. We finally headed back to SC on Friday, along with one of the cousins who is taking summer courses at the college of Charleston, and spent the weekend in Charleston recovering and spending time with the fiancee’s family. And then I had to come back to the night shift. Let me tell you, a vacation from night shift is not a vacation really. You spend the whole week adjusting to day life and then ruing the return to night shift. Oh well at least I will be on second shift soon (circa 3 weeks). And now onto randomness.
- There is a car company commercial that shows large chassis and such being chucked into a desert which symbolizes the designer throwing the designs out. I would like to see the machine that chucks those parts in Action, it would be like a skeet shoot with cars…..”PULL!”
- I saw a commercial for a refrigerator with a flat panel TV in the door. Uhh ok let’s just get it over with and install the lazyboy on the refrigerator. Why is America complaining about the weight problem but continuously gets us closer and closer to the fridge and farther and farther from exercise.
- Washington DC, do not drive in the place, take a train to it if you need to get in, and drive around on 495, even if the lanes are messed up. And to add to the above there were accidents all over DC that day which made it even worse to get around.
that’s all I can do…..my fingers are nubs from typing this much!
