Carb Crazy

Ok as I am a member of the food production community and a fellow carb dieter I must tell everyone about the comedic revolution going on with foods.  First off you should see how the industry is reacting to this carb craze.  Remember a few years ago when fat was the big thing, well the industry decided to run a low fat craze which, when induced into recipes, ended up raising the carbs and sugars=>remove the fat but replace the taste with sugars and such.  Well that went well and everything on the shelf was “low fat” or “lite” and everyone in America was happy.  Now everyone watches the carbs and to the food industry this is like pulling the parking brake going at 70 MPH.  Everyone is rushing to get the new “low carb” items on the shelves but as with the low fat stuff something had to give so in hoping that the public does not remember “low fat” the industry raised the fats back up and lowered the carbs.  It really is a fun circle to watch especially when Planters peanuts who weren’t doing that well in the fat fad is now booming in the carb fad and basically nabisco is pulling it’s hair out trying to find a way around carbs on such carb loaded products.  A few other points, the best being calories in calories out, if it goes in you have to burn it off like gasoline.  I am particularly amuzed by the new carb menus that people are offering in fast food, the best being Hardees Breakfast bowl.  Oh good lord if that ever seemed like a good idea please let me know when cause the last time I checked a bowl of eggs cheese sausage and bacon was called a cardiac arrest.  But that is just an example of how the industry puts the blinders on, if the public thinks low carb low carb low carb then they won’t realize that the meal they are eating is what they were avoiding just 5 years ago!  Another funny one is Wild Wing (a local wing place), who advertises their low carb wings and such…..umm damn when was the last time you saw a calendar filled with those bowling buddies who suck down wings every day?!!  And one more thing, why the hell is Beer even trying to get in on the game, hello it has a belly named after it!  Basically it is funny watching people hear about a fad, low carb, and then watch the food industry take advantage of the uneducated ones and plaster “LOW CARB” everywhere.  I can just see some fat slob walking into a doctors office complaining about not losing weight even though he is following a low carb diet consisting of Hardees breakfast bowls, wings, and low carb beer.  Oh well I have read that the low carb diet has come and gone before and that history repeats itself so I will wait for the fad to die again.  Either that or wait for the black plague to come again….
