Superbowl…new and squeaky clean

Well I enjoyed this superbowl a lot more than the last one. Of course I was working during the last one so anything would be better. I do not know what the Patriots have on the mental psyche of the opposing QB’s but they messed up Manning, Rothlisburger and McNabb. Each of these QB’s were amazing through the season and choked when the Pats D was in their face. I also don’t know what was going on with the Eagles “hurry up offense” in the last 2 minutes…that was ridiculous. Overall I think that the Eagles should have won the game but I guess that this was just God’s way of assuring Doug that yes, he was there. I am sure Doug is enjoying the puckered faces of all the Philly fans. But we all know why we watch the big game: The commercials. I didn’t see that many good ones but the series of monkey commercials took the comedic cake, I was rolling with every one. The emmy goes to the “whoopee cushion monkey” whose re-enactment of the cushion was hilarious. The WTF awards go to the Hispanic taunting cockateel and the Gladys Knight/Rugby Commericals. I do not know why the companies paid for these bits. Also I was annoyed at how many times I saw Blockbusters attempt at competing with net flix, if you are that lazy that you can’t even drive to the movie rental store it’s time to do some reflecting on your life! Finally, I think the best commercial of the night was Budweiser’s “Thank you” commercial with the troops being applauded as they came through the airport terminal. That commercial was just awesome in every meaning of the word. It brought a new reality into commercials, recognizing what is going on in the world and putting a national thought into display. I only hope that the troops got to see that commercial, that they believe that the commercial is a reflection of the general public and that once in a while that does happen to the troops coming home. I was thoroughly moved by the commercial, so kudos to Budweiser, they had their comedy with the donkey and they had their dedication/recognition with their applause.

Oh yeah the half time show was OK. The music wasn’t what it usually is but the makeover was a change so I understand that. The audience interaction was cool with the Na Na Na’s and the sea of glow sticks though. At least they didn’t ruin another band like they did with Aerosmith/Britney Spears/Justin Timberlake/Nelly that one year (BAAARRRRF).

I missed most of the commercials. I enjoyed the chimp kissing ass, the bud light parachute commercial, and the MC Hammer 15 minutes of fame commercial.

As usual I skipped the halftime show. I don’t know how it started, but I continue to think that there shouldn’t be a halftime show. It’s a football game for the love. When did some rock ‘n’ roll show become mandatory for a football game?

As far as commercials, I loved the Airplane bit. the MC Hammer one was cool. I managed to temporarily hack off everyone else at the party when I yelled out, “Look, a bunch of republicans are welcoming the troops home.” I thought Dems were supposed have senses of humor. Oh, well. Only one person said queitly in an I don’t want a political discussion voice, “I don’t think that Democrats don’t support our troops.” The rest were all saying, “yeah, yeah.” Quietly. A simple loud “Fuck you Lawton” was all that was needed. I liked the Half time show. It sure beat “The Washington Post.”

I applaud Lawton for his audacity….of course Lawton always was the one that was yelling inappropriate things so it really didn’t surprise me. Hell what’s the fun in it if you don’t get the fuck you look every once in a while.
