Nostalgic Revelations

What really establishes that I was a child of the 80’s is that I have established my reasoning for becoming a percussionist (drummer) to the muppets character “Animal”, I even have a figure of him in my home. For some ungodly reason I find myself whistling classic Nintendo music, usually it is the music from Super Mario Brothers castle levels. I drove to work today and passed a construction site, on the site was one of those pale green earth movers, I can not see this type of equipment without thinking of the transformers contructicons. I HAVE ISSUES!! Also I am proud to report that I have begun reading my Bible (I have 3 different ones, all NIV) but have found that all the stories I learned as a kid are a lot shorter than I remember. In 45 minutes I read about Adam and Eve, Noah and the Tower of Babel! My mind is running out of stories, I am sure it will remember them as they pop up, but I am looking at what is left of the Bible and wondering what else is in there (Bad Christian…..BAD CHRISTIAN!!). Also while reading the NIV, I have found myself finding the translations a bit too fit for today’s language (in one situation when God asked Cain what happened to his brother, Cain responds “I don’t know”) so I am in some way yearning for an older version (maybe King James who knows). Oh and I am working this weekend so look out for some random posts, I might check to see if the local book store has that treasure hunt book again to get some stuff on my mind over the weekend (crossing fingers that things go well in the plant).

If you’re looking for “stories”, you’ve still got at least the following ones to enjoy:
-Joshua and the conquest of Canaan.

-All the judges in, yes, Judges. The left-handed swordsman who kills a fat king, the prophetess who kills an enemy commander with a tent spike through the temple and many others including Samson.

-Samuel and his various exploits as leader of the Israelites.

    -Jonah and the whale.

-King Saul, David and Solomon and their exploits in the Samuels through the Kings and into the Chronicles.

-The splitting of the kingdoms into Israel and Judah.

    -The exiling of the Israelites.

    -Queen Esther.

    -Job.

    -Ezekiel and his trippy visions.

-Nehemiah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls.

And that’s just in the OT! Wait till you get to the Gospels and Acts.

I knew I could depend on the ministers son for some religious motivation!

I recommend getting a Student Bible with explanations. Mine tells some of the context of situations and gives a better perspective-especially in regards to Pauls letters.
