Weekend Wrap-up Part 1
Ok so this past weekend, Friday thru Sunday, Lauren and I attended the Catholic Couples Engaged Encounter. This is basically the Catholic Churches attempt at keeping the kids together through their marriage by letting them know what they can look forward to in terms of arguments and such. You basically spend 3 days writing in a journal about questions they ask you involving family, finance and what you expect in the marriage. You then sit down with your fiancée and talk over your answers. Our hosts were 2 couples that had been married 7 years and 37 years respectively. When it came to the intimacy section it was discomforting to hear the couple that had been married for 37 years talk! Another interesting point about the couples is that they both had some form of conception problems. This was good in terms that maybe someone in the group may face the same problems that they did some day, it was bad in the fact that when they started talking about not using birth control and instead using the AFP method. This method is where you track the womans cycles and can have sex when you are least likely to conceive. Now this is supposedly proven to be affective 90% of the time but I am not taking the advice from 2 couples that pretty much didn’t have to worry about getting pregnant. They could fuck like rabbits anytime they wanted and didn’t have a good chance at it! So anyways we are in this group with about 20 other couples ranging from 18 years old to probably in the early 30’s. 2 couples were already married and had kids they just wanted to be affirmed by the church. This was interesting to me as at the beginning of the course they asked that if you were here for any reasons under pressure that you should not be here. So why else would the couples be there except to get their annoying parents off their backs. Now you may say I am being cynical but the couples really did not give a shit and didn’t write jack in their journals, of course that would have been pretty hard with all the cussing and all the times they didn’t show up on time! Lauren and I met a few nice couples and hung out with them at times. One couple that we met was great, she was a medical student that was going to find out where her residency would be this week and he was a game designer, whose main customer was Microsoft Xbox. If she gets her residency in Columbia we will definitely be hanging out again. They were a great couple and we clicked pretty well, I know this by the immediate movie quoting that occurred between him and me. The girls seemed to get along well enough in how much they made fun of us in our geekspeak. Overall the weekend wasn’t that bad, it got Lauren and I to face a couple of issues we had been skirting and become open about many things. Plus we got to meet a great couple!

Dude, it’s called the rhythm method.
And every Catholic schoolgirl that was naughty relied on that method.
So sayeth the Roman Catholic who went to a pro-Baptist college.
