After the weekend I decided that I would move our new King Size Euro Pillow Top Mattress from Charleston to Columbia in my truck. Now a king mattress is 76×80 and with the super mattress we got it was 18 inches deep, plus the 2 box frames (luckily we got thin ones). Now I am a cheap bastard and found the whole idea of renting a uhaul for 100 bucks or more defeating the purpose of finding the bargain mattress in Charleston. The money I would pay for gas and rent of the uhaul would bring the final cost of the mattress up and closer to just buying it in Columbia. So we went to the warehouse and strapped the mattress on the truck. The box springs fit nicely in the bed between the wheel wells and the free frame wedged itself nicely between the box springs and the mattress so all I had to worry about was the mattress itself. The plan was to test drive the mattress from the warehouse to Laurens house and if it went poorly to dump the mattress off at Laurens house and rent a Uhaul in the morning. If it went well, I would go to Columbia at night when the traffic would be lighter. So the mattress is 4 inches beyond all sides of the bed of the truck and obstructing most of my side view mirrors, so the journey was interesting with me bending all over the place trying to find what I was against in traffic. We get to Laurens house without incident and it was decided that I would make the trip to Columbia that night. That trip also went flawlessly with a stop for gas and a reinforcement of the ropes in the middle. The real bitch was moving a king bed on my own, damn that was one heavy bed! Anyway to wrap the story up, I now have a king size bed that I had to go buy stuff off our registry to cover it with today, about 200 bucks overall in sheets and a mattress pad! Oh yeah, this also means that it’s first come first serve when multiple people visit for the full bed in the guest bedroom.
