Point…Optimism

And in return to the pessimism a few days ago I present these optimistic words:

“Stuckey believes that once everybody understands their roles and how they fit into the grand scheme, they might trump the productive group of 2003.”

Yeah that’s the group with Hamilton and Youngblood if you weren’t keeping tabs. They even liken the new freshman receiver Aaron Kelly to former phenom Rod Gardner:

“It’s getting to the stage where it’s going to be a shock if he drops one. That’s kind of where Rod Gardner was at the end of his career. Right now Aaron’s had that consistency.” (Bowden)

So hold up a sec, what they are proclaiming is they have talent out the wazoo and extensive competition in the wideouts positions….aww really that’s too bad. ‘Scuse me while I wipe the drool off the desk.

It also seems that some of the bigger boys may be touching the ball in the new offensive schemes. Being a Chiefs fan, I have always enjoyed watching the tight ends make mincemeat out of corners and safeties so I look forward to that in tiger Town.

And of course the news of the fab 9 is exciting. I look forward to getting true freshmen on the field. As I see it, you get the best talent, get a veteran crew for the next years and show that the school is truly recruiting better.

Oh yeah, in closing, for all you tiger fans who want the seconds to countdown head over HERE to get your active desktop countdown with rotating photos from last year. It looks pretty sweet and I may check it out on my own computer.

It is definitely nice to hear such positive things about the wideouts this year after being disappointed last season. Whitehurst is proven (and disproven) but I gotta believe that he’ll most likely resemble the Whitehurst of 2003. It is interesting to note the depth at QB. Unfortunately none of the backups have really played, but we’ve got Proctor, and a couple of redshirt freshmen (Reese and Harper). And our running backs look pretty solid too. Coleman, Merriweather, and Browning have all shown great talent at one point or another, and now throw Davis into that mix. My 3 questions are: can the O-Line get the job done to let the ball advance as it shoul? will the tight ends be able to absorb Spence’s new offense? and will Spence’s offense prove itself worthy.

Sure I’m wearing my orange colored glasses, but the offseason is leaving me feeling quite optimistic (perhaps too optimistic).

Optimism without a strong base for believe: I don’t think I will pass out on a stump or a toilet this fall.
