Good to have him back
I know more than half the readers of this blog can’t remember the days of Clemson’s old gameplan of 2 downs and Tony Horne. You probably weren’t around while the students would scream “It’s Tony Horne day!” when he always caught that essential 3rd down pass like a sacraficial lamb for the Tigers. You may not remember the offensive threat that was Tony Horne but I know that most remember “The Catch II” or “The Push” depending on which side of the ball you were rooting for. Just like Tony Horne, Clemson had another receiver follow in the footsteps of greatness, but he was more aggressive and had more flair about him. Rod Gardner is back in the Carolinas and is obviously enjoying being back where he began his career. I have enjoyed watching him play so far and look forward to watching his career as a Panther. Hopefully he will become a staple in the Carolinas again, he was and is always fun to watch out in the flats.

Amazing comment. Either during the Clemson game or Panthers game this weekend Oberg and I were talking about it. How a few plays looked like Tommy West ball with Preister off tackle left, off tackle right and on 3rd and 7 “that wide receiver on a 5 yard crossing route who would get killed.” His named slipped us for a minute but returned. Those were the days when a good Greek Bowl defense could stack up to the Tiger O and have a shot. We proceeded to go 2 and 8 a year or two later then Bowden came to town.
As for Gardner, he didn’t dress yesterday. We watched and watched but alas no Rod. Carolina needed him in two. Several instances where wetried to throw a fade to 6ft Steve Smith and hope he could out run the D before outrunning the inbounds line. We wanted Rod. Throw the ball up. He’ll catch it. We’ve seen him do it! Alas, no Rod and today I find out he didn’t even dress. Here’s hoping he’s back to his old ways against the Pats this coming Sunday.
