Sure….now I want to learn!
I have recently come to realize that I wish I had all of my old history books from elementary, middle and high school. I think now that I have completed my educational cycle that I would enjoy reading about Civics, American and World History a lot more. Now that I wouldn’t be graded on it, it might be a little more enjoyable to read. I may venture into B&N sometime to look at some history books that might line up to a school textbook. I always enjoyed the graphics inserted in the text to relate to the literature, so I will need a book with decent pics. I will also need something that isn’t written for a scholar, I want to read on a simple level, a general understanding as taught when I was in school (as todays kids don’t even have to know American history but are forced to learn African American History in Philadelphia…I am so sorry Doug, move!). Maybe it is the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and the history behind it, but the urge to read an American History book has been swelling in me for some reason. Maybe I will have to check some used textbook sites. Damn this thirst for knowledge and it’s delay, where was it when I needed it back in school?! Oh yeah that’s right, I was too busy worried about girls and what time we would play street hockey that night. Oh well.

I don’t think I could manage that because the over-simplifications and errors would drive me nuts.

Yeah, if you read a school level book, it will leave out the dirty gossip that makes history fun in the first place. For example, everyone knows Caligula had an incestuous relationship with his sister, but did you know that Columbus didn’t think the world was round, he thought it shaped like a woman’s boob. Yeah, C-dog was a boob man, too.

I’m still holding out hope the world is in fact shaped like the infamous lamp in A Christmas Story.

There are so many awesome books in the book stores. I would have a field day picking up the books on WWII and the Civil war, especially with maps showing the strategy and attack manuveurs the generals used. Also, I recommend a nice Atlas. It makes for a classy coffee table book. I will have a nice one when I have my own place and a coffee table. You never have to wonder “where is that” again and many come filled with all kinds of useless knowledge that wins free beer on trivia nights.

lofty aspirations from Wha….to one day own a coffee table, yet that bottle of finely aged Jack is still not opened. LOL!!

Or you could download Google Earth and avoid the atlas altogether.
