Strike One

Today was the day.  After 4 months of researching and narrowing the search, today was the day that the wife and I went to buy the previously mentioned LCD HDTV.  I was like Charlie and the Golden Ticket with my 10% coupon in hand as we entered the store.  Like a kid in the toy store that knew exactly where the toy he wanted was in the store I A-lined it to the TV department.  We went and stared at the TV until a service person came and asked if we needed any help.  After setting up the purchase and the 4 year parts and service warranty, the service person asked if I had a Best Buy Credit Card to which I whipped out the 10% off coupon and stated that was how I received the coupon!  The salesperson then stated that she would apply the coupon and began to ring up the purchase.  It wasn’t until she got to the coupon that she pointed out that it would only be effective on the actual price of the TV if the TV was on special.  The TV was selling for 2,499 and was marked down to 2,249.  That was a special so the 10% would be against the 2,499 which would bring the price down to a little under the special price.  Well the deal was shot right there, I asked why they were running a special and couldn’t apply the coupon to it and she said that the coupons restrictions mandated it.  I took my coupon and told her that I guess I would be shopping at a later date as I was looking foward to the extra discount I would receive as a valuable customer who has preached their name above all criticisms (Douglas!) and even had their credit card.  Well count that as strike one on Best Buy, I will be writing them a nasty letter on this one.  The only good thing is that my cheap bastard side is praising me for saving 2,500 today!  Now if only i could summon the powers that are Andy 1’s mom’s cut throat bargaining skills and I might come out of this with a TV and some furniture or something!!  LOL.

TV by company not known, no go. Though I am sure all the components came out of the same Chinese factory. As for the justified anger, break out some FSU pictures of me and a Jack bottle. Say you will unleash this occurence on the store in the same mental state as 5 minutes prior to the pictures, with bottle in hand, and see what they do. I bet you get a reaaaaalll good deal.

I try and try to warn you people, but does anyone listen? Noooooooooo!

Best Buy sucks, Comcast sucks, Verizon sucks, Cingular sucks, which is why I 1) shop at Circuit City or Amazon for electronics 2) use Speakeasy for internet access 3) use my mobile phones for all long distance, etc. and am planning on switching to VoIP and 4) just switched to T-Mobile. Why the “sucks” label for each of those Big Companies? My hassles with BB are well-documented over at my blog, Comcast tried to double my TV/Internet fees simply because I moved closer to Philly, which is apparently populated entirely by inbred imbeciles incapable of determining when they’re being actively fleeced, Verizon was Bell Atlantic, and if that’s weren’t enough, actively sabotaged my Speakeasy DSL connection back in Bethelehem and Cingular apparently cares nothing for the fact that I was a long-term “valued customer”, having never missed a bill and never caused them a lick of trouble.

I might have the Bad Customer Service Mojo, but if anyone else actually heeded my warnings, they might be spared as well.

I’m a little confused, were you expecting to get 10% of the 2249 price?

Otherwise it sounds like you get 10% of of 2499 either way unless they actually lower the actual price.

  7. Wha Says:

Wait until after Christmas when they are really looking to dump stock. All discounted prices amount for is what the market price should be with a holiday bump up listed as “sugested retail.” Also money mag indicates to wait until August to get a sweet TV. some sort of new technology that is going to come out in all the high end stuff, driving down the prices of what you and I would be looking at, ala the original topic of this and the past posts.
