Weekend Wrapup

Well my wonderful wife surprised me with planning the anniversary weekend so I just sat back and enjoyed the ride.  We went down to Charleston where, as many of you know, we got married and stayed in a verrrrrry nice hotel overlooking the spot where I proposed and coincidentally told her that I loved her.  The hotel was freaking awesome and for the price tag it should have been!  But hey, you only get one first anniversary so it was all good.  We started Saturday off with breakfast on the 4th floor veranda overlooking the harbor which was great.  We then moved on to the IMAX to see the Safari show.  I personally am a big IMAX fan and this show didn’t let us down.  It was also nice that the wifes cousin was working the theater that day and got us in for free.   We also got free parking as the machine broke down and had us waiting a bit for it to get fixed.  The rest of Saturday was shopping downtown where we got my anniversary present, orange seersucker pants, fitted and purchased two new additions to the wifes monogramed vera bradley bags.  We also ran into Funks wife and had lunch with her which was very nice as we hadn’t seen each other in a long time.   Funk was not available as he was playing Uncle Funky to his sisters kids.  Saturday was capped off with dinner at the same place where we had the rehearsal dinner and this time I got to enjoy the food and the environment.  We joked about the last time we were in that restaurant all night.

Sunday was spent with the wifes family celebrating mothers day.  It was nice to see a bunch of her relatives as I hadn’t been down to Charleston in a while.  After an early dinner we drove back home to “enjoy” the top of the wedding cake and some champaign.  To all those who have not enjoyed the bliss of the top of the wedding cake, let me just say that we stomached a bite and couldn’t take anymore as the cake tasted like raw dough.  From what I have heard, this is coming out on the good side as most wedding cakes succumb to freezer odors and such, which is why Mrs. Funk is worried about her cake as someone stored frozen shrimp right next to it!  As for those who already partook in the wedding cake fiasco, thanks for the warning!

So that is one year down, the year that some people say is the hardest and some say is the honeymoon.  We will have to wait and see which it is for us.  As for next weekend, we go to a wedding to dispense or wedded knowledge.

When you come to my wedding, you can just nod knowingly when we remove the top cake layer.

I liked this entry, esp. the phrase “Uncle Funky.” If Lawton’s niece/nephew(s) really call him that, that’s a bonus.
