Sooooo in lieu of a company that I am trying to get a foot in the door with requesting my graduating GPA, I contacted the alma mater and got my transcripts. Drum roll please……….the cumulative GPA upon graduation………2.15. That’s right folks, amazing huh? I have been laughing about it for the past hour 1. That I graduated with that GPA and 2. That I have been employed by a major corporation for 4 years now. I am pretty sure that any company that asks about the GPA from here on out is out of the picture due to that astounding 2.15 but why are companies asking for my GPA as I am now out of school 5 years. whatever……
That just cements the entire “graduated last in my class and got my degree from a hot dog stand” story.
You know what another .5 on your cumulative GPA gets you? 17 spots higher in a class of 70-some. If they are asking at this point, I think I would tell them what they can do with their position. All anyone I talks to cares about is that I have the degree.
You can also try to figure out your GPA within your major. Example, I graduated with a 2.5 GPA. My GPA within my major (ie excluding all those cross discpline required to graduate with a BS classes) was a 3.5. Of course, if you list “GPA within major = 3.5″ most employers will see right through this, or worse, ask what the cum is. My 2c.
I REAHEHEHEALLLY don’t think that is a good idea considering the A’s I got were through the classes outside of my “concentration”
Oooh…a Dr. Coxism…..
Awesome.
ok, so let me get this straight, my GPA is higher than yours?
Yeah but the difference in 2.0 and 2.15 are so small it doesn’t matter. I stick with my original thoughts.
I also wouldn’t give that company the time of day. My GPA is . . .”Professional Engineer.” I was telling someone today that if I had stayed in one night and studied longer that would have made the difference between graduating with honors.
I’m so glad I went out drinking.
You know what graduating with honors is good for? Getting a job that has nothing to do with engineering.
Hey, funk can thank me for ruining his “honors” college career. As I remember it, the story goes something like “I looked at how “Agent” was living his college life and what I was going through trying to stay in the honors college and I said Fuck it.” Then he became my “tutor” in the fraternity and started spouting some nonsense about doing all the odd problems in a chapter to get a grasp of everything to which I promptly laughed and downed a strong drink…….it all seems to make sense now.
This isn’t totally related, but I just finished grading a set of damnamics quizzes.
The average was 65.
You have some smart students.
In all fairness, it was a pretty tough quiz.
And let me tell you that giving out so many crappy grades is kinda depressing. Plus grading such a hard quiz is a pain in the ass that takes forever. I can totally understand why grade inflation happens.
