As my boss asked that I not take my traditional 4th of July family reunion off so that he could take the week off for a family reunion of his wifes, I took the Th and Fri off before the week of the 4th. It all worked out as Doug and his family were right down the road at their own family shindig and made it up to see my mom, dad, wife and I as they traversed the eastern coast back home. It was great to see him, his wife and son as I hadn’t seen them since Will was a few months old. Doug has decided, in a dedication to the house finding task that is in front of his family, to grow out his hair and beard. For his wifes sake, I hope that they find a house soon as Doug looks like a Giant Jesus right now. We headed out to the beach and rode some boogie boards which transformed Doug into “Surfing Jesus”. The quote of the day involved “Surfing Jesus sucks at the surfing part!”. Anyway, we had a great time and was even introduced to his sons curiosity and (questionable) limited vocabulary. I say questionable as, in previous posts on his site, Doug mentioned that his son has the habit of successfully pronouncing a word only to give the look of satisfaction and never saying the word again. The theory is that he has established a psychiatric procedure that involves how far he can go through life just pointing at things and saying “that”. Of course, as adults we all say the noun of the item that he is pointing at and he moves on to the next object which continues the cycle. It all works out though as he is a cute kid, I guess the next one out of the oven will be just as cute.
Friday, Doug and family headed out and my sister, her family and mother in law came in. My niece is beyond cute. She has a pair of sunglasses and has a tendency to raise one of her arms with her hand in a fist to form a “ROCK ON” look, it’s awesome. She is very “talkative” with her mamamama, babababa etc…. Of course she was the center of attention the entire time so not much else was accomplished. We spent the rest of the weekend with them, heading to the beach and squeezing in a 9 hole round of golf.
I have to say that the location that my parents retired is probably one of the most relaxing places I have been in a while. You just sit around and have 81 holes of golf to play and are 15 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes from the ICW. You just get up and do whatever you want. One of the best things is they just have pyramids of golf balls sitting at all 4 of the driving ranges. You just walk up and start swinging. I took a couple earl morning walks down to my parents clubhouse and his a few dozen balls. The entire weekend was great, we will probably head back next weekend to see my sister and her fam off. I still have 4 weeks of vacation to burn so I am sure I will be heading out there even more.

Where are your parents retired? Are they in NC? If so, call me next time your up there. I live about 90 minutes from the beach. So, they could be relatively close to my house.
