10 little indians

It is a year away but is always a hot topic. I like reading up on the candidates as time goes by because new hot topics are introduced daily. Throw in the fact that anyone can join or drop out at any time and you need to keep up with everything so you don’t miss a beat. I am currently perusing Fox News Eye on 2008 and what the candidates positions are on the selected “hot topics” of Abortion, Energy/Environment, Immigration, Iraq and Taxes. From what I can see, there is not one candidate that would get my vote if I had to vote straight ballot on the topics. Pretty much, here is what I would be looking for.

Abortion: Although this should not currently be at the top of any Americans list with everything else going on, it is always one of the defining position grinders to enter the election. I honestly believe that the abortion laws will never change, they may be revised for age and items like that but they will never be abolished no matter how much I and other conservative/libertarians want them to. So on this one, the talking head “abolish abortion or limit to rape, medical or other emergency reasons” answer will have to do.

Energy/Environment: Ok look, I grew up watching Captain Planet and you can ask my wife, I am a recycling fool. I will dig through the trash to pull plastic, glass and paper to recycle. It might be self gratifying to know that I am at least doing something with the junk mail that I never read but someone printed on 52 sheets of paper for some unknown reason. So that is my environmental shpeil(sp?), as for global warming, come talk to me when the rest of the “developing” nations that are putting out more crap than we are decide to play fair. In other words, F the Kyoto. I do believe that we need to eliminate the dependency on oil and head towards alternative fuels, what those would be for the cars, I have no idea but for the rest of the stuff look at Nuclear. Every liberal out there is always saying that they want to be more like France, well guess what, France is highly dependant on Nuclear energy so step up and get some. And in the mean time, go kill some Caribou and drill in Anwar. I would love to see the middle east drown in oil after the big countries decide that there are easier ways to get power than deal with their saber rattling and threats to their allies.

Immigration: Hmm, reference any and all posts on my blog since it has been created to view my opinion on that. Ideally, kick em all out, go back to go, do not collect $200. In reality, they are in here and working trying to make a living, I will give them a chance if they learn the language and assimilate, this is not Mexico II. As for the ones not contributing to society, see point 1. And for the criminals, I would like to go Arab law on them but send em back where they cam from. Increase the border patrol as well with national guard or recruitment and budget. Build a fence or, if I had the money, a huge ravine with a wall on the other side. And turrets on posts 400 yards apart with training snipers. Wing a few and see how many try to freely cross the border then. But in the end, increase border security first then do something about what is going on in the country.

Iraq: Or Germany 65 years later. And we are still in Germany so this is going nowhere. Somehow, the allies need to grab some sacks (France is getting on board with the new leadership HOLY SH!T!!!) and join the fight. Rotate the time or something but decrease the dependency on America to try to keep peace or at least establish something stable in the region. I am as sick of the war as anyone else but if you leave a power vacuum in there it will just create more of a problem. I don’t have a stance on this one as no one has created a stance past “pull em out” or don’t. We need to stay for stabilities sake.

Taxes: Get rid of the IRS. Not only does it piss me off annually but it costs the nation something to run it, so not only are we paying the taxes, we are paying for the IRS to function. Right now I am a fan of the fair tax: gimme my money and let me spend it how and where I want to spend it. Tax the goods and services but let me choose where to put the money. Flat tax is interesting but why would I want to pay 20% of my net pay when someone elses 20% is alot less? more of my money is going somewhere than that other person.

Oh yeah, social security, you can change that to something that I have more control over through a 401K type structure.

That is all. Questions…..opinions….rotten tomatoes?

While I don’t usually speak of politics, I’m chime in because I’m not an opinionless wuss.

Abortion: Let’s leave the Doctor’s decisions to the doctors and lawyers decisions to the liars. I personally believe you are killing a baby when you abort at any age. However, if that baby has no head and may kill the mother or at the very least will increase the trauma to the mother upon delivery as oppossed to an abortion . . .well, you’re a douchebag if you make the mother deliver a headless baby and watch it die. (Oh, I’m not making this up. . .I’m merely recanting last week’s ‘How was your day?’)

Energy: I’m all for nuclear power. It’s cost effective. I would seriously like to see a life cycle threat cost on hybrid vs normal cars. I’ll do my part to recycle, but if you try to push a compost toilet on my go to hell.

Illegal immigration: I think kicking them all out at this point is not the solution. It’s just not feasible. I don’t think illegal immigrants deserve due process if they raped/murdered a 4 year old. We shouldn’t house rapist/murderers or illegals. That’s a waste of my money. Illegals who commit crimes should be sent back to their country . . . dead. Cruel, yes, effective, yes. Are we breaking their civil rights? What rights? F’m.

Iraq: Part of me wants us to say “We have won the war in Iraq.” and leave. But the humane part says we’ll be there forever. Why do tree hugging free love liberals not know this? Oh, they do, they’re just playing politics.

Taxes: Bringing a socialist society to a capitalist country. The rich pay for th lazy. I’m all for Agent’s opinions here. Otherwise, some stupid @sshat is going to want me to pay for his $500.000 house he couldn’t afford.

Social security: I’m convinced the age for SS will be long after I’m dead. I think it should be an option. Do you want to throw your money away? Check yes/no.

Social Security? Ok - It’s for dumbasses who can’t trust themselves enough to save for themselves. I agree with lawtonfunk - make it optional or just change it to life insurance since no one from our generation will probably live to see it. Plus the application process is so bad, you probably wish you were dead.

Taxes - I’m all about the fair tax idea.

Iraq - like I said on my blog, we are only there until the situation in Iran blows over. Then we will (mostly) pull out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, etc.

Illegal Immigration - I honestly have no problems with illegal immigrants coming here to work and contribute to our economy. But don’t expect anything either. Don’t expect the law or law enforcement to protect you, don’t expect any government handouts, and if we want to build a bridge on your house - don’t expect it to be there when you get home from picking grapes.

Energy - I was reading in the latest Car & Driver some great info on energy. Things like 1 acre in the SW desert can product 500 megawatts of energy/yr, the Chinese can use these filters we designed 60 years ago that would eliminate SO2 emissions in their coal plants which would pretty much eliminate global acid rain, 1 acre of this special grass can create 2000 gallons of biofuel/yr. and so on and so on. The good thing about the US is we have a lot of acres to do things with. Plus I’d rather buy biofuel from Canada than dino from the Middle East.

Abortion - jeez, this is the hardest one for me. To me, you can’t just make abortions legal for some people and for some reasons. I think it either has to be legal or illegal - and since there are some good reasons already stated why it should be legal, I think it should be legal. Every part of me morally is against it but I think that is the way it has to be. I beleive certain measures must be introduced so it does not become a form of birth control, but every thing I can think of can be overcome. Maybe charging an really high tax on it so most cannot afford it but if the abortion is for medical/ rape reasons, the tax is waived? I don’t know - then people would argue on rich people can get abortions and rich people (thinking celebrities) are the people who would disgust me the most to have this done. It might even become a status symbol. OK - the tax thing is not a good idea. Maybe if the abortion is driven by rape/medical reasons, they would be given painkillers for the procedure and if not, no painkillers? Is that just really F’d up? I think you will touch some nerves on this post AO.

Did you all see where all the Dems pretty much conceeded we wouldn’t be 100% out of Iraq by the end of hte next presidential term in 2012/13? Yeah, they can bitch all they want, but they they know damn well you just can’t occupy some place then leave it to rot. If you do, you come out looking much worse in the long run.

  4. Andrew Hunter Says:

I made a pretty long post but I don’t see it. Did it ever make it?

  5. agent orange Says:

    I don’t see it in the log……

  6. Andrew Hunter Says:

Man, it was huge - almost as long as your original post. Here is a very brief summary:
Social Security - make it optional life insurance becuase our generation will never see the money while we are alive anyway.
Taxes: I’m a big fan of the fair tax
Iraq: we are still in Iraq because we are protecting Israel from Iran - see my blog
Illegal Immigration - I have no problems with illegals living here as long as they don’t expect any services such as protection from the law and law enforcement or government handouts in any form.
Energy - I quoted some stuff from the latest Motor Trend about all the leaps and bounds (solar, biofuel) we have made recently and if we could implement them and make all nations implement them - they would basically eliminate the most threatening environmental issues. Nuclear still has issues with waste and are a very risky terrorist target. No one is going to blow up a windmill.
Abortion - The touchiest of subjects. My point is that if there are situations where it is acceptable then it should be made legal for all reasons. I had some really good points in my last post which disappeared. I am morally against abortion but if there is any reason why it should be legal in certain situations, it should just be legal. I would like to see stipulations so it is difficult for anyone but the rape victim or the mother/baby in medical trauma so it doesn’t become a gross form of birth control. I love liberals for are for abortion yet against the death penalty where it is OK to kill an innocent child but morally objectionable to kill a person guilty of a horrible crime. If you wish me to go into more detail - just ask, I’ve already gone through it once! Stupid blog loosing my post!!

  7. Wha Says:

Um, Nuclear isn’t nearly as risky to with regards to terrorist attacks as most people think. I have talked a little to some one that works for Duke Power at Oconee abotu this. You would be surprised at the progress in safety vs Three Mile Island and Chernobyle (sp?).
As for abortion, I think this is the msot personal of personal decisions, especially for the mother with child. Though I am against it and agree with the extreme cases only as mentioned multiple times above, I feel this is the one place I have no business pushing my opinion on others for the betterment of the whole. I do get a kick out of the point abotu the same liberals for abortion and against the death penalty. I would love to see that argument brought up ina televised debate. Of course it could be flipped on the Republicans but I think the argument would be much easier when turned around that way.
