If you have a computer that needs Micro$oft Office capabilities but don’t have the cash to fork out for the program, check out Open Office. Like Paint.net that I told you about previously for a Photoshop replacement, Open Office has Micro$oft knock offs that preform pretty much the exact same way as the originals with formats and equations and all. I am using the Excel knock off in the office now and it is working out pretty well. You can also save in Microsoft formats so that you can pass files along to those privileged enough to have the big boy toys.

Last I tried OO, I was a bit underwhelmed. The programs were OK. They had a noticeably generic feel. For basic stuff, I think they did well. On the downside, OO, did a pretty bad job of handling many of my old spreadsheets, and when my spreadsheets ain’t handled good I get unhappy. And ain’t nobody happy if Nobrainer ain’t happy. Therefore, on my desktop, I find that I strongly prefer using an old version of MSOffice (it’s either 98 or 2000, whichever came with the laptop I purchased in mid ’99) to OO.
Personally, my next foray into non-MSOffice office document software will be with Google Docs.
[meant to end the emphasis after "if Nobrainer ain't happy."]
